I got a note from Jeff Banke suggesting I add 3 more ways to convert images to black and white following my previous tutorials. Well Jeff knows a thing or two about photography and you can see some of his images by clicking on his name, so I’ve included them here…

1. This is the same as doing “Desaturate”, simply by selecting “Image adjustments”, “Hue/Saturation”, and turning the saturation all the way down to minus 100.

2. This gives a very different look. Select “Image adjustments”, “Replace color”, adjust fuzziness to the max (200) use the plus eye dropper to select everything in the image, and then adjust Saturation to minus 100.

3. This may be the best of these three, but remember this is just to demonstrate, with the methods that you already have pointed out that PS has many more ways to skin a cat!.

Select Black as the foreground color, and White as the background color, “Image adjustments”, “Gradient map”, the image turns into the B/W, by clicking on the gradient the gradient editor opens up and one can adjust the end limits for a more contrasty look, and the smoothness for a flatter look.

Thanks Jeff.
